Primary Curriculum (Grades 1-8)

In our primary school, learning is engaging and fun. We encourage learners
to develop new academic interests while ensuring they graduate to
secondary school with the core competencies they need in order to access
more challenging curriculum materials.
We ensure that there is sufficient flexibility within our primary curriculum
structure to tailor learning to the individual interests and needs of our
To achieve this, we blend aspects of:
 Edexcel Primary and Lower Secondary programme;
 Somaliland Primary Curriculum giving special emphasis to Somali
language, Arabic language and Islamic studies, ensuring these
subjects are embedded within our core curriculum;
 Kenyan Primary curriculum.
In grades 1 to 3 pupils are taught in mixed ability classes with activities
differentiated to meet individual academic needs and learning styles.
Their class teacher supported by a dedicated learning assistant delivers
majority of subjects. Specialist teachers are introduced for Somali, Arabic,
Islamic Studies and Physical Education (PE).
From grade 4, the pupils transition to a curriculum purely led by subject
specialist teachers for all lessons. This ensures pupils’ progress to
Secondary School with a greater level of academic independence and
deeper subject knowledge.

Plan and Details

The child has one intuitive aim: self development. He desperately wants to develop his resources, his ability to cope with a strange, complex world. He wants to do and see and learn for himself through his senses and not through the eyes of an adult. He becomes a full person. He is educated.”

Why us?

All Lower Junior classes are taught predominantly by their form teachers and teaching assistants within their own classrooms. The exceptions are Games, French, ICT, library and music, all of which are taught by specialist staff. Swimming lessons also begin in Reception once a week at York Hall swimming baths, taught by qualified swimming teachers.
